Many thanks, Claudia, for your denouncement and complaint. It is so sad to read these stories, this forces us to empathize with the victims but also to do something about it.

(Read: Vacaciones hechas trizas)

We must ask ourselves, if this was done to a foreigner, how many Raizals and Residents, who get worse treatment than foreigners, were sent home after the accident and are still awaiting treatment?

For over 30 years we have been denouncing, begging, demonstrating the fact that health services on the islands arecondemned to always be underfinanced.

We are a colony, granted; intentionally overpopulated, granted. But why can’t the colonizing country finance the people they have thrown on our islands to outnumber raizals because of their paranoia of separatism?

You see, as far as I understand, health services receive financing from Colombia according to the Population With Unsatisfied Basic Needs (‘Poblacion con Necesidades Basicas Insatisfechas’ - NBI).

But according to Colombia, we only have less than 70 thousand inhabitants on San Andres, so they only send money to finance health services for the percentage of the 70 thousand with unsatisfied basic needs. In other words, the hospital must attend to around 120 thousand persons with the money for 70 thousand.

We know that the population is about double the amount Colombia says, but they do not want to acknowledge that because they would have to acknowledge that we are overpopulated that this was their fault, and that the only solution is to take out people.

( On January 26th 2024, two months ago, I was paid for bills the hospital owed me from December 2022. I have been forced to return to work on ships because of not having an income to survive at home, and I have never seen health as a business.)

So Claudia, many thanks again for what you exposed to us, I pray that our People will someday wake up and decide to fight until our priorities – overpopulation being the greatest-, are properly addressed.

Too many cars, too many passengers, too many jobs, too many unemployed, too many cheap tourists, but local and colonizing governments are only centered on getting more visitors to benefit the exploiters/destroyers of the naturalresources handed down from our ancestors. Things can only get worse with the current “priorities” the government has; fight we must.

A last word, Claudia: I know you are not working as a journalist with any media and that you have always been very objective in whatever you write. It is pleasing, despite the sad message, to read an objective article like this, not what many island mercenary “journalists” write…
