Bonhoeffer, por su franqueza contra el nazismo y su ‘filosofía arriana’, fue martirizado por el régimen nazi en un campo de concentración. Así, en este pequeño libro, explica el don de Dios de la comunidad argumentando lo siguiente: "Es gracia, nada más que gracia, que se nos permita vivir en comunidad con los hermanos cristianos" (Bonhoeffer, 1978, p. 20).
Esto es lo que nos lleva a este Salmo de Ascensión. Un Salmo de Ascensión se utilizaba o cantaba para recordar al pueblo quiénes eran cuando encaminaban hacía Jerusalén para sus celebraciones anuales. Todos los hebreos peregrinaban a Jerusalén desde dondequiera que estuvieran para unirse a su comunidad judía en la celebración del hesed del Señor, Su amor de Pacto.
Mientras peregrinaban, hacían algo parecido a un llamado y respuesta. Por ejemplo, el director principal diría: "¡Qué maravilloso y bueno es que los hermanos vivan juntos en armonía!". Y la respuesta de la gente sería: "Es como un aceite fino en la cabeza, como un goteo en la barba, como un goteo en la barba de Aarón sobre sus vestiduras".
Por lo tanto, desde este Salmo de Ascensión, y como pueblo, dado el clima político actual en el que nos encontramos, y las tensiones y relaciones tirantes que ha causado entre nosotros como pueblo. Este salmo es un buen recordatorio para que nos recalibremos sobre lo que es realmente importante o lo que debería ser importante en términos del objetivo final.
En primer lugar, vivir juntos no significa que haya armonía entre nosotros. Más bien, es un llamamiento a la búsqueda de la armonía entre nosotros en el curso de nuestra convivencia, y esa es la diferencia. Creo que si nosotros, como pueblo, queremos tener un impacto serio y dejar huella en esta isla en beneficio de la gente, debe comenzar con una exploración seria de la reparación de nuestras relaciones o convivencia por medio de hacer de Él-el centro de esa relación. Porque es la armonía lo que sostendrá a una comunidad unida. ¡No una ideología!
En segundo lugar, vivir juntos no significa que no vayamos a tener diferencias entre nosotros. Pero vivir juntos en armonía nos ayudará a respetar y apreciar nuestras diferencias con el único propósito de construir una comunidad capacitada para luchar contra las fuerzas de la opresión, la distorsión, la corrupción y la explotación, como el contexto actual en el territorio insular.
Al igual que Bonhoeffer y su comunidad, comprendieron que, para hacer frente al régimen nazi y a la violencia de la época, tenían que construir una comunidad imbuida de armonía, en la que las diferencias no fueran un factor, sino que la armonía que gobernaba la comunidad fuera el factor más importante para luchar contra las fuerzas de la injusticia y la represión política.
En consecuencia, tanto este Salmo de ascensión como el libro de Bonhoeffer, La vida en común, nos proporcionan el marco o una hoja de ruta que creo que nuestros líderes y nuestro pueblo deberían considerar seriamente como la forma de gobernarnos y de conducirnos hacia adelante en un tiempo como éste.

Life Together
“How delightfully good when brothers live together in harmony!” Psalms 133:1... Dietrich Bonhoeffer's 'Life Together' is one of the best books written about living together in harmony.
Bonhoeffer, because of his outspokenness against Nazism and its "Arian philosophy," was martyred by the Nazi regime in a concentration camp. So, in this book 'Life Together', Dietrich Bonhoeffer gives an insight into how the relationships of Christians were supposed to be under Nazism or, let us say, in hard times or in persecution.
In fact, this little book will give you insight into how to build harmony and co-existence in any organization or even your workplace if you take the time to read it.
One scholar observed, “The main theme Bonhoeffer explores is Christ in the Christian community under the Word of God.”
So, in this little book, Bonhoeffer explains God’s gift of community by arguing the following: “It is grace, nothing but grace, that we are allowed to live in community with Christian brethren” (Bonhoeffer, 1978, p. 20).
This is what brings us to this Psalm of Ascent. A Psalm of Ascent was meant to be sung to remind the people of who they were as they traveled to Jerusalem for their annual celebrations. Every Hebrew person would make a pilgrimage to Jerusalem from wherever they were in order to join with their Jewish community in celebration of the Lord's hesed, His covenant love.
While they were on this pilgrimage, they would have something similar to a call and response. For example, the lead singer would say, "How wonderful and good it is for brothers to live together in harmony!" And the people's response would be, "It is like a fine oil on the head, like a drip on the beard, like a drip on Aaron's beard on his garments.
Therefore, from this Psalm of Ascent, and as a people, given the current political climate that we find ourselves in, and the tensions and strained relationships that it has caused among us as a people. This psalm is a good reminder for us to recalibrate ourselves on what is really important or what should be important in terms of the ultimate goal.
In the first place, living together does not mean that there is harmony with each other. Rather, it is a call to the pursuit of harmony with one another in the course of our living together, and that is the difference. I believe that if we as a people are to make a serious impact and mark on this island for the benefit of the people, it must begin with a serious exploration of the repair of our relationships or living together by means of making Him the center of that relationship. For it is harmony that will sustain a community together. Not an ideology!
In the second place, living together does not mean that we will not have differences with each other. But living together in harmony will help us to respect and appreciate our differences for the sole purpose of building a community that is empowered to fight the forces of oppression, distortion, corruption and exploitation, such as the current context in the island territory.
Like Bonhoeffer and his community, they understood that in order to confront the Naziregime and the violence of that time, they had to build a community imbued with harmony, where differences were not a factor, but the harmony that governed the community was the most important factor in fighting the forces of injustice and political repression.
As a result, both this Psalm of Ascent and Bonhoeffer's book, Life Together, provide us with the framework or a road map that I think our leaders and our people should seriously consider as the way to govern us and to lead us forward in such a time as this.
